Chi Alpha Southern Illinois University at Carbondale was pioneered by Ty and Cina Silva in 1976.

At the time, Ty was working with his father-in-law at First Assembly of God Church in Carbondale. After going through several years of very capable student-led ministry, God provided the facilities at 501 West Main Street through an Illinois District Council meeting in May 1986. A former Lutheran church was purchased, which then became headquarters for Chi Alpha.

On February 28, 1988, First Assembly then planted a student church in this facility now called Calvary Campus Church. Near the end of 1996, additional facilities, including houses and a new sanctuary, were purchased to accommodate the growth in the ministry.

Today, Calvary Campus Church is an International & American ministry that focuses on worship, prayer, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism and missions. Our heart is to make a “home away from home” for Internationals on the Southern Illinois University campus in order to show Christ to them. Our ministry’s motto is, “To Know Christ and To Make Him Known.”

We desire to reach the nations for Jesus and encourage Americans with a heart for Internationals to come alongside us to be a light to the world!
